Chelsea have ‘not forgotten about’ Koundé

Premier League title challengers Chelsea look set to revive interest in Sevilla and French international center-back Jules Koundé.

According to The Mirror, the Blues will look to come back in for Koundé after negotiations in the summer broke down before a deal could be struck for the 23-year-old Girondins Bordeaux academy graduate.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was also quoted in saying that he has ‘not forgotten about’ the French defender despite the failure to secure his services in the summer according to L’Equipe via the Mirror.

It is not clear if the Blues will look to bring him to Stamford Bridge during January or try to manufacture a summer capture on the back of question marks that currently exist in the Chelsea backline moving forward.

Blues transfer push to stall amid Rüdiger situation?

The report also mentions Chelsea being linked with two other French international players in Paris Saint-Germain center-back Presnel Kimpembe and AS Monaco starlet Aurélien Tchouaméni with a further squad overhaul potentially on the cards in west London.

But those plans could at least be partially scuppered given recent developments among the current Blues squad after claims from BILD’s Christian Falk state that discussions between the German international and Chelsea have improved to the point where a possibly stay at Stamford Bridge could be on the cards.

The potential of Rüdiger remaining in west London in conjunction with Thiago Silva signing a recent contract extension would leave question marks surrounding the future of just Danish international Andreas Christensen.

Chelsea may not need to bring in a host of names to supplement options in the heart of the defense, with links to both Koundé and Kimpembe possibly taking a hit should Rüdiger and Silva remain at the club while being added to the likes of Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah.
