A fresh insight into the wage packet set to be taken home by returning Barcelona star Dani Alves across his 2nd spell with the club has been provided on Friday.

Xavi sanctions comeback

The name of Brazilian icon Alves has of course taken centre stage in the Catalan capital over the course of the last week.

This comes on the back of the shock announcement that, a full five years after departing, the veteran defender is set to link back up with the club with whom he enjoyed near-unrivalled success.

On the back of Xavi Hernandez’s instillation on the bench at the Camp Nou, speculation quickly began to spread that a reunion with Alves may be on the cards, owing to the latter’s free agent status.

And precisely that was confirmed on November 12th, as Barca took to the club’s social media platforms to announce their beloved one-time full-back’s imminent return:

La Liga minimum

Alves, at 38, is expected to play something of a bit-part role over the remainder of the campaign, with his more telling contributions likely to come behind the scenes at the Camp Nou, in aiding the development of the likes of Sergino Dest and Oscar Mingueza.

Even so, though, it came as something of a shock when word began to spread earlier this week, surrounding just how little the South American was expected to earn in Catalunya over the coming months.

English reports, citing sources in Spain, outlandishly suggested that Alves, incredibly, had agreed to line out for his beloved Barca for a measly 1 euro-per-week.

Such claims, however, proved wide of the mark.

Clarification when it comes to Alves’ contract situation has since been provided, by the reliable Luis F Rojo of Marca.

Rojo has revealed that the veteran defender in fact put pen to paper on a deal worth 155,000 euro-per-year. This marks the lowest figure which any La Liga club is legally permitted to pay a senior member of their first-team squad.
