Scottish champions Rangers have, on Thursday evening, named Giovanni van Bronckhorst as the club’s new permanent manager.

Gerrard moves on

The subject of the hotseat at Ibrox has of course proven headline news across the continent over the course of the last week.

This comes with beloved boss Steven Gerrard, the man who guided the Light Blues from the depths of despair back to the pinnacle of Scottish football, having opted to call time on his spell with the club.

Despite Rangers being in the thick of things on both the domestic and European fronts, just three months into the campaign, Gerrard evidently viewed the opportunity to test his managerial talents in the Premier League for the very first time too good to turn down.

In turn, the one-time English international has opted to continue his journey on the touchline with Aston Villa, replacing the recently-dismissed Dean Smith in the west Midlands:

GvB returns

The board on the blue half of Glasgow, as a result, were forced into an altogether unwanted pursuit of a new boss.

Speculation surrounding just who was set to be identified as Gerrard’s replacement, in turn, proved rampant, with the likes of Ronald Koeman and former Gers star Gennaro Gattuso amongst those tipped for the role.

Throughout, however, one man was viewed as the widespread front-runner.

The tactician in question? Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

GvB, who lined out at Ibrox from 1998 to 2001, remains a fan favourite amongst the Rangers faithful, meaning the breaking news regarding the club’s search for a new manager will no doubt be met with glee on Thursday evening.

In a post across the club’s social media platforms a short time ago, the Light Blues confirmed that van Bronckhorst has agreed to take up the reins, as the 17th permanent head coach in the club’s history:

The Dutchman himself, meanwhile, has since been quick to send a message to his adoring new fans, confirming his ‘excitement’ and ‘pride’ at being handed the opportunity to take his place on the Ibrox bench:
