Dortmund the best in the business?

Borussia Dortmund have a reputation for being something of a well-oiled machine.

With one of the best atmospheres in world football at the Signal Iduna Park stadium, they are perhaps the best exporters of talent in the Bundesliga, having seen 250 million windfall for the sales of Jadon Sancho, Christian Pulisic and Ousmane Dembele to European giants.

It is widely expected that the likes of Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham will fetch them significantly more money in the years to come.

Many will accuse the club of always being in Bayern Munich’s shadow, with the Bundesliga title not having returned to the black and yellow since 2011-12, under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp.

Worse yet, they have seen the likes of Mats Hummels, Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski depart their club for Munich on free transfers, further strengthening this idea of inferiority.

Places that they cannot be faulted, however, is the well-run nature of the club and the rapport that they have with their fans, as has been shown by the recent movement.

50+1 allows Code of Values

In Germany, unlike many other leagues, the 50+1 rule exists.

This means that the club must retain the majority of its voting shares (50% + one share to be exact), meaning that they are less swayed by outside influence, and that the club members will ultimately have the final say.

Now, these members have moved to “protect the traditions of their football club” in the latest turn of events.

As per German outlet Kicker, the club have introduced a “code of values” that will be the cornerstone of the side going forwards.

These include safe standing, sensible ticket prices, the commitment not to play home games abroad, the commitment to keep the black and yellow club colours and continued adherence to the 50+1 rule.

In a world where football seems to be heading further and further from the average fan, this represents a refreshing change.
