Striker hunt on hold? Arsenal set to offer Alexandre Lacazette new contract

An update on the future of Arsenal hitman Alexandre Lacazette has emerged.

Arsenal to offer Lacazette new deal

Alexandre Lacazette would join Arsenal from Lyon back in 2017.

The Frenchman has since featured on 189 occasions for the Gunners, scoring 70 and assisting 32 along the way.

During his time at the club, the now 30-year-old has proven himself to be a very useful asset for every manager he has worked under.

Yet, despite still being a key cog in Mikel Arteta’s side, Lacazette was expected to depart the Emirates this summer.

This comes with Lacazette currently out of contract in June, and reports last year claiming that the Gunners will not offer the striker a new deal.

Now, though, a fresh update on the situation has emerged via football.london, citing teamTALK.

It is claimed that Arsenal are set to offer Lacazette a two-year deal.

What does this mean for Arsenal’s striker hunt?

Given he is 30, having Lacazette around for another two years doesn’t seem like the worst idea, especially given his value to Arteta’s side.

But what does this mean for Arsenal’s striking situation?

Reports of late have claimed that Arsenal will allow Arteta to spend in January, with the Spaniard wanting a striker and a midfielder.

One of the names most heavily linked with the north London outfit has been Dusan Vlahovic, who is currently dominating the Serie A with Fiorentina.

But if Arsenal are going to go out of their way to offer Lacazette a new deal, will they still be looking to target a striker?

Should Lacazette stay, Arsenal would have the Frenchman, Gabriel Martinelli, Folarin Balogun and potentially Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to play up top next year.

And with Martinelli and Balogun in need of regular minutes in order to develop, would adding another striker on top of Lacazette make sense? Or should Arsenal put their striker hunt on hold?
