Chelsea take on Leicester City

Chelsea are currently locked in action with Leicester City in the lunchtime kick-off in the Premier League.

The Blues have conceded just 4 goals all season, but have struggled to find a regular goalscorer across the opening phase of the term, with Reece James currently sitting top of the charts in west London.

History repeated itself, with the defenders pitching in again as Antonio Rudiger nodded home a Ben Chilwell corner in the opening minutes of the first half.

Should they win the game, they will head six points clear of their nearest competitors in the top flight, ahead of Manchester City and West Ham’s clashes later this weekend.

Defenders rule the roost

There is little doubt that Romelu Lukaku will come good in Chelsea blue, having struggled for goals thus far this campaign.

However, as the saying goes, good teams find ways to win even when they aren’t performing, and that is what Tuchel’s side continue to do, thanks to a lot of help from their defenders.

Rudiger’s opener means that 43% of Chelsea’s Premier League goals this season have been scored by defenders, with Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Trevor Chalobah also all pitching in for the Blues.

As they continue to kick into gear, and Lukaku finds his feet in the Premier League once more, Chelsea are only expected to get stronger, and while they will be tested by the sides around them, finding goals all over the pitch will stand them in good stead going forwards and is often a key trait of a title-winning side.
