WATCH: Fernando Alonso Cuts Off Lando Norris in Funny Styrian GP F1 Exchange

Lando Norris is well known as the fun driver in the F1 fraternity. He’s seen pulling pranks on people in the paddock, often including other drivers in his pranks, especially Carlos Sainz, when the two were teammates at McLaren. But this time around, it was Norris who was at the receiving end of it, and the prankster was none other than two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.

After the Styrian Grand Prix, all drivers headed to the media pen, and just as the Briton was approaching an interviewer for a chat, Alonso cut in.

The Spaniard assured everyone involved that he’d give a short interview, “I will be very short, don’t worry!”

And safe to say, he followed through on his promise!

The interviewer congratulated Alonso on his race, “Points, Well done!”

Sticking to his promise, the Spaniard gave a brief response, “Thank you, thank you guys,” then gave the crew a thumbs up, and left!

While they may seem like an unlikely duo, Alonso and Norris have had a good relationship since the time the Briton was a reserve driver for McLaren before the two-time world champion’s retirement from the sport.

In fact, during the United States Grand Prix in 2018, Norris even made a cup of tea for Alonso!

‘Alpine not as good as a top-10 finisher’: Fernando Alonso

Alonso qualified for the Styrian GP in P9, but Tuki Tsunoda’s three-place grid penalty for impeding Valtteri Bottas meant that the Spaniard got promoted to P8.

After the Leclerc and Gasly collision at the start of the race, he moved up to P7. Unfortunately, he couldn’t defend his position and lost out to the Ferrari, but he somehow managed to keep Tsunoda at bay to finish P9.

“It was challenging. I think maybe we are not as good as a top-10 finisher. We got lucky at the beginning with Gasly and Leclerc colliding, and then we tried to hold the position, but with the two Ferraris, we could not stop them,” said the two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso.

“But Q3 yesterday, top 10 today, some points. Not the best weekend, but I think it is challenging for our package at this circuit.

“Unfortunately, we race two times here so we need to find something for next weekend, but we have some ideas and I’m sure we will use these two weekends to improve our car.”
